Questions

What founders ask first.

What is a startup grant?

A startup grant is money a government agency, public fund or foundation gives a company to build something specific, without taking equity. In return it usually asks for a defined project and reporting, and often matched funding or a share of the cost.

Do startup grants have to be paid back?

Most do not. A few are conditional and can become repayable if the project stops or the agreement's terms are broken, and a small number of the funding programmes listed here are loans, guarantees, convertible or equity-linked. The cost line on each listing says which.

Who is eligible for startup grants?

Eligibility is usually decided by where the company is incorporated, where the work takes place and what it builds. National programmes often require a locally registered entity, and sector programmes fund only defined technologies. That is why setting up in the right jurisdiction can open funding that is closed to you today.

Can East Bridge Global apply for a grant for me?

No. East Bridge Global does not run these programmes, is not paid to list them and cannot influence a decision. Through its Capital work it can help prepare what an application is judged on: the plan, the financial model and, where needed, an entity in the right country.
