A change in two letters has sent domain buyers looking toward Slovenia. As Washington starts calling artificial intelligence “Super Intelligence”, the country’s .si web addresses have become part of a much bigger conversation about technology, branding and getting in early.

The opportunity deserves attention. A memorable .si domain could support a product launch or protect a brand. But the useful question for entrepreneurs and investors is what that address will actually do for them once the headline fades.

A three-minute video overview of this article.

What the AI to SI change actually means

On Sep 29, 2026, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing US executive departments and agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications, websites and other non-statutory documents. Previously issued regulations, contracts and historical documents do not need rewriting.1

The scope matters. This is a change in US executive-branch terminology, not a worldwide requirement for businesses to rename their products. The order initially gives SI the same meaning as AI under the existing statutory definition, while requesting a proposal for a new federal definition within 60 days. It does not, by itself, establish a new technical capability.

Why Slovenia is suddenly in the spotlight

.si is Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain, managed by its Academic and Research Network, ARNES. It has existed since 1992. The suffix now happens to match the initials of Super Intelligence, giving an established national domain a new branding association.2

The surge is measurable. Register.si’s published monthly chart records 46,066 new registrations in September 2026, compared with 3,515 in August: about 13.1 times as many. These are domain registrations, not counts of active AI businesses or evidence that Slovenian-language websites have become more popular.3

That distinction helps explain both the excitement and the uncertainty. Buying an address is quick. Building a useful product, earning customer recognition and sustaining demand take longer.

What the comparison with AI domains tells us

The comparison is tempting. .ai is Anguilla’s country-code domain, and its association with artificial intelligence has given it a broader commercial identity. Buyers are now betting that .si could develop a similar association.4

Early activity also shows speculation. Netcraft found that just over half of the .si domains it detected at Dynadot between Trump’s social-media poll and his UN remarks were listed for resale. That finding concerns one observed group, not every .si registration.5

Registration growth therefore tells us that buyers are interested. It does not tell us how many operating businesses will adopt the extension or what those businesses will pay. More useful signals would be recognisable products launching on .si, verified sales to end users and renewals after the initial enthusiasm.

The search visibility detail buyers should check

There is an important SEO difference. Google’s published guidance lists .ai among country-code domains it treats as generic. As checked on Oct 4, 2026, .si is absent from that list. Google says country-code domains generally provide a strong signal that a site is intended for a particular country.6

For a business targeting international customers, that is a reason to assess .si carefully. It is not proof that a .si website cannot rank overseas, and Google’s list can change. It does mean buyers should not assume that .si receives the same treatment as .ai.

An established business also needs to weigh migration costs. Google warns that changing a site’s URLs can cause temporary ranking fluctuations while pages are recrawled and reindexed. A fashionable suffix alone is a weak reason to move a functioning website.7

When a Slovenian domain makes business sense

For founders, the strongest case is a specific use at a sensible cost. Securing the .si version of an existing brand may preserve a future option. A relevant name could also serve a campaign or a clearly defined intelligence product. Check registration and renewal terms before deciding; a cheap first year is only part of the cost.

Example

Consider a business whose existing website already brings qualified leads. Reserving a matching .si address for a planned product gives it flexibility without forcing an immediate rebrand. Paying a premium for an unrelated name simply because registrations are rising adds a cost before establishing a use. Treat these as different decisions, with different budgets.

Keep an established primary domain while testing whether customers understand and remember the new address. A memorable domain helps only when people can connect it to a credible offer.

For domain investors, start with the likely end buyer and evidence of completed sales. Asking prices and registration spikes are not reliable measures of resale value. Avoid names that depend on someone else’s brand, and budget for renewals if demand takes time to develop.

The East Bridge Global perspective

The AI-to-SI shift shows how quickly a change in language can move attention and spending. A .si domain can be a strategic branding asset when it serves a clear purpose; the extension alone creates no business advantage.

At East Bridge Global, our approach connects AI product development with positioning and market entry. Evaluate the name alongside the product, audience and route to customers. Keep the commitment proportionate to the evidence.
